According to a Bedford Police report, the accident happened at 4:40 p.m. on Heltonville Road East.

Kirk, who was driving a 2002 Jeep Liberty, south on Heltonville Road, told police she didn't know what happened, but she looked down for a second and then heard a loud bang and the next thing she knew she was in the yard.

Kirk said her vehicle had needed an alignment and that it pulled to the right on her. She struck a mailbox, owned by Matt Walden. The Jeep then went left of center into a yard, striking a tree and the corner of a house belonging to Gary Dunham, at 502 Heltonville Road East. Kirk also hit a basketball goal belonging to Dunham before coming to a stop in a yard of Kenneth Bushey at his home at410 Heltonvile Road East.
