Last updated on Tuesday, January 15, 2013

(WORTHINGTON) - White River Valley School Superintendent Dr. Layton Wall is taking an early retirement from his position as top administrator of the WRV School District.

The Greene County Daily World reports that Wall's request for early retirement was accepted by a unanimous vote of the WRV School Board during a special session Friday. His retirement was effective immediately.

Wall told the board in a letter that he was needed to be available to his family on a daily basis.

WRV Board President Jason Davidson says the board was notified about Wall's request during an executive session on January 8th.

No replacement has been announced.

Wall has been superintendent since 2004. Before that he had 15 years of experience with the school corporation as a social studies teacher at Worthington-Jefferson Junior High School.

He then moved on to become the assistant principal and athletic director at WRV-Worthington.

In 2003, he served as the assistant to retiring Superintendent Stephen Campbell.
Wall grew up in Owen and Greene counties. He attended both the Spencer-Owen Community School and Worthington-Jefferson School.

He graduated from W-J with the Class of 1974 then went on to receive undergraduate and graduate degrees from both Indiana University and Indiana State University.
