(BEDFORD) - The Bedford City Council appointed Byron Buker to serve as 2013 council president.
Councilwoman Judy Carlisle and Councilman Patrick Robbins will continue to serve on the Redevelopment commission and Buker will continue to serve on the Plan Commission.
In other business:
* The council amended the storm water ordinance to allow more time for officials to enter data into the computer system for billing. The residential rate of $5 was to begin on the next billing, but will now be postponed for a month.
* The council passed an ordinance to amend the rezoning map to incorporate the property at 2626 16th Street, just west of O'Reilly's Auto Supplies.
The property zoned residential will now be zoned commercial. The councils passed an ordinance replacing the Fair Housing Ordinance. Trena Carter of Administrative Resources Association told the council the change needed to be made to keep in compliance with HUD guidelines.
* The council approved the compliance statement of benefits for Lowe's home Centers Inc. on a contingency the business submits a corrected form including salary rates of employees.
The statement is so the company can receive their tax abatement for the final year of their 10-year-tax abatement awarded by the county.
Senior Manager James Ricketts says the family oriented company is proud to be at part of the Bedford community and will strive to continue to serve families in Lawrence County.
