Pekin Woman Arrested After Police Find Her Hiding In Closet

Last updated on Sunday, January 27, 2013

(PEKIN) - A Pekin woman who hid from police behind a closet wall inside a residence at 258 E. Karnes Crt., Pekin, was arrested and now faces felony drug charges.

Stephanie Taylor Ferriell, of the Leader Democrat reports, state police troopers had been searching for Jaclyn R. Hart to serve a felony warrant issued out of Floyd County when they saw her enter the Karnes Court residence Thursday morning.

Officers also saw Douglas Carwile, whom they recognized from a previous arrest, enter the home. The two did not initially respond to officers' knocks and announcements that they were law enforcement officers. When Carwile finally came to the door he told officers Hart wasn't there; he hadn't seen her in three weeks.

Officers then searched the home and initially could not find Hart. As they were again asking Carwile where she was, they heard a loud noise from upstairs. Realizing the sound came from an area inaccessible from any room, they determined there was a large void behind the hall closet wall.

When the state trooper began removing the panel, Hart pushed back, trying to prevent him from doing so. The officer struggled with her for a few minutes, then was able to remove the panel. Both Hart and Carwile were arrested.

Carwile, 44, Greenville, is charged with assisting a criminal and false informing.

Hart, 28, Pekin, faces Class B felonies for possession of meth and

possession of cocaine or a narcotic drug, along with misdemeanor charges of possession of paraphernalia and resisting law enforcement. When she was searched as she was booked into the jail, officers discovered her to be in possession of both meth and heroin.

She remains incarcerated on a full cash only bond of $50,000.
