No Bomb Found At GKN Sinter Metals In Salem

(SALEM) - Police searched for a bomb at GKN Sinter Metals in Salem, Wednesday afternoon.

Salem Police Detective Scott Ratts, says the company was called reporting a bomb in the facility. Ratts says police are in the process of tracing that call.

Ratts says after the threat, the general manager pulled the fire alarm and evacuated the 150 first-shift employees from the building.

Ratts says dogs from Louisville Metro Police and were flown to the scene by helicopter to help with the search.

Eric Stephenson, production superintendent, says the call came in about 1:30 p.m.

Stephenson says once employees were evacuated, managers unloaded the furnaces, which takes about two hours. That task is normally handled by the employees.

Salem Fire Chief Tom Day says his department was toned out at 1:47 p.m. Also at the scene were Sheriff Claude Combs and deputies from his department and state police.

Police found no bomb and around 9 p.m. law enforcement cleared the premises.
