Missing Nashville Man Found In Louisville Hospital

(NASHVILLE) - A Nashville man was found safe in Kentucky after missing for more than a week.

According to Nashville Town Marshal Stephanie Hess, 74-year-old Thomas Merritt called his wife at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday from a hospital in Louisville. Hess, says Merritt, who had been without his medication, was resting but feeling weak.

Sara Clifford, of the Brown County Democrat reports, Merritt disappeared from his Ridgeway Drive home at about 8 p.m. Jan. 15 - with no vehicle or identification.

Police did a ground search around Merritt's home and property on Clay Lick Road had been exhausted, with the aid of search and rescue dogs. Police also checked all the hotels in town, contacted friends and family, and sent missing-person fliers to police departments in Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida.

Officer Dalton Herrin says police received a report over the weekend that Merritt had spoken with a person at the Bob Evans restaurant in Columbus on Saturday about his plans to hitchhike to Louisville, to meet up with friends and find work and that is what he did.

Merritt then became sick and ended up in the hospital.
