(PAOLI) - The environment where children learn and play can significantly impact their health because on a pound for pounds basis, children breathe more air, drink more water and eat more food than adults.

The Indiana Youth Institute (IYI) is hosting a forum that will explore how to be more aware of environmental threats as children's behaviors expose them to more chemicals through crawling, putting items in their mouths and playing on the floor.

The forum will feature Jody Perra, executive director of Improving Kids' Environment, who will discuss practical ways to improve air quality, water quality, housing, and child care conditions for children. She also will explain the data in the 2012 State of Environmental Health for the Young Hoosier Child report.

The forum will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7 at the Super Burger, 600 W Main St., Paoli, 47454.

As part of IYI's Youth Worker Cafe program, the forum is free and lunch will be served, but reservations are required. To make a reservation, email Deana Davis at ddavis4@iuhealth.org or call (812) 723-7571.

Youth Worker Cafe are designed to bring together local youth workers to build relationships and inspire collaborations that will benefit children. This Youth Worker Cafe is made possible by the collaborative efforts of IU Health Paoli and IYI.

For more information, contact Niccole Caan, media relations manager for the Indiana Youth Institute, at (317) 396-2737 or ncaan@iyi.org.
