In 2012 Bedford Passed Hike In Water And Sewer Rates

Last updated on Tuesday, January 1, 2013

(BEDFORD) - In October the Bedford City Council unanimously passed a significant hike in water and sewer rates and added a new stormwater fee in order to cover costs related to its aging system.

The city requires new pipes, equipment and a complete overhaul for its antiquated and crumbling infrastructure.

The project, which promises to be long, painstaking and expensive, is unavoidable.
Mayor Girgis asked Bedford Utilities Director Misty Adams and utility veterans Eric Flinn, Jeff Kendall and Les Tipton to speak to citizens at a public hearing and make the case for why the city must act now.

The combined water and sewer rates will rise from $55.28 per month to $72.64. The new rates began November and were payable in December. The new stormwater fee of $5 per month begins in January and is payable in February.
