Greene County Treasurer Retires After 29 Years Of Public Service

(BLOOMFIELD) - Shelby Meurer, of Linton, worked her last day as Greene County Treasurer on Monday.

The Greene County Daily World reports that Meurer has spent 29 years in public service, and her office co-workers and other courthouse employees honored her with a New Year's Eve pitch-in lunch.

Meurerhas served a total of three four-year terms as Greene County's treasurer.

After graduating from Linton, she started her career in public service by getting a job in the utility office of the city of Linton. Meurer was elected as the county treasurer in 1988, then re-elected for a second term, serving two terms from 1989 through 1996. Then she served as the Stockton Township Assessor for more than nine years.

In 2008, she won election to her third term as county treasurer, working another four-year stint at the courthouse from 2009 through 2012. Of her 29 years in public service, 21 had been as an elected official.
