Greene County Foundation Host Scholarship Fair Jan. 31

Last updated on Wednesday, January 23, 2013

(GREENE COUNTY) - The Greene County Foundation will host a county-wide Scholarship Fair on Jan. 31 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the 4-H Fairgrounds.

Sabrina Westfall of the Greene County Daily World reports that all organizations that offer scholarships to Greene County students are invited to the event to help generate interest.

"What we are trying to do is better connect scholarship providers and scholarship recipients to create a one-stop event," Greene County Foundation Director Cam Trampke explained. "They (scholarship providers) might be from Vigo County, but if they offer scholarships to Greene County students we would like to hear from them."

She added this event was put in place because many scholarship providers do not work directly with the foundation, so the foundation is not able to provide the information to students.

"Many smaller organizations have scholarships that don't have anything to do with the foundation, and they don't have many applicants," Trampke added.
Scholarship applications can be dropped off at the foundation by Jan. 30, or if the organization would like to be present they can contact the foundation to reserve a spot to interact with the students.

Trampke suggested organizations bring in approximately 15 applications to start, and they will make more copies if needed.

She added the foundation is trying to help the event grow to help more students get the opportunity to receive college scholarships.

Trampke said the event is one of many techniques the Greene County Foundation has put in place over the last few years to help students prepare for the scholarship application process.

The foundation has hosted a workshop for Greene County students to guide them in writing essays for their scholarships and given direction on where to start with finding scholarships available to them.

The Scholarship Fair is a way for the students to put those acquired skills to work.
For more information about the Scholarship Fair or to arrange dropping off applications, contact the foundation at 659-3142.
