Firefighters Prevent Disaster In Downtown Nashville

Last updated on Tuesday, January 8, 2013

(NASHVILLE) - Downtown Nashville escaped what could have been a big disaster Sunday afternoon when just after 2 p.m. Nashville and Fruitdale volunteer firefighters extinguished a fully engulfed car in an alley.

The burning car was found on Molly's Lane between Big Woods Village or the former Tucker Building and the Colonial Building. Heavy smoke filled the area and firefighters were able to get the fire under control quickly.

Firefighters evacuated nearby buildings as a precaution, but at 2:45 p.m., they were allowed to return.

The buildings on either side of the alley contain several retail spaces, Big Woods Pizza and apartments.

Firefighters say there was no damage to the buildings, but the vehicle was destroyed.
