Dennis Whitaker To Serve As BNL High School Asst. Principal

Last updated on Tuesday, January 29, 2013

(BEDFORD) - Dennis Whitaker, a retired North Lawrence Community Schools teacher, has been hired by the school board to serve as an assistant principal at Bedford North Lawrence High School.

The Times-Mail reports that Whitaker is a former teacher in the NL system and also served as an assistant principal at BNL for seven years.

He fills a vacancy created by the resignation of David Beaver in December.
Whitaker will serve on a day-by-day basis.

Gary Conner, NLCS assistant superintendent, told the school board Thursday, "He is willing to serve on an as-needed basis as we move through this semester until we can find someone to begin next year."

Conner suggested the system could begin searching in the spring for someone to fill the job permanently.

"He is a very good role model for the kids. ... He has an enormous amount of experience working with high school students." Conner said.

Whitaker spent 40 years in education, with most of the time spent as a social studies teacher. He retired in 2010.
