Columbus Police Looking For Man Who Attempted To Pick Up Girl

Last updated on Tuesday, January 22, 2013

(COLUMBUS) - Police in Columbus are looking for a man who, they say, approached a 14-year-old girl while she was walking to school.

According to police, the Northside Middle School student was approached by a man driving a minivan around 7:20 Thursday morning on Home Avenue, south of 27th Street in Columbus.

Police say the man rolled the passenger-side window down and told the girl, "you're father told me to come pick you up, so get in." The girl quickly walked away and alerted a counselor at her school.

The suspect is described as a white male in his forties. He has medium length brown hair that partially covered his ears and had a long grayish goatee mustache over his top lip.

The van police are looking for was believed to be similar to a Dodge Ram SE minivan that may have been "crayon gray." There was black paint on the passenger front door handle that had been scratched or faded and "was showing gray or silver," according to police.

The girl told police it appeared that some had taken a sharpie and written something on it.
There was a cardboard box on the front passenger seat and a child seat in the back.

If you have any information, you're asked to call the Columbus Police Department at (812) 376-2600.
