(BEDFORD) - Clarence Brown will once again bring Martin Luther King Jr.’s message of peace and non-violence to Lawrence County.
For 23 years Brown has served as the driving force behind the community's annual Martin Luther King Jr. march and celebration.
The 24th gathering is slated for Jan. 20 at the Lawrence County Courthouse.
Citizens will convene in the rotunda at 2 p.m. for a brief ceremony before marching to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where Brown, Carissa Ruble and Taylor Brown will speak before the congregation shifts to the church's Shamrock Center for an afternoon of fun, food, music and fellowship.
Brown stresses it's important for people to come out and bring their children and grandchildren.
This message is for the young people.
Brown explained educator/historian Norm Taylor, felled by a heart attack in late November, inspired him to shift the celebration's focus toward the community's younger generation.
Brown interpreted Taylor's encouragement and the recent slaying of school children in Connecticut as clear messages on how he should proceed.
Brown is looking forward to the county coming together in love and fellowship and invites everyone to attend.
