(BROWNSTOWN) - Brownstown Central Community Schools will offer a new advanced manufacturing and logistics curriculum intended to prepare students for skilled jobs with local manufacturers.

Joseph Persinger, of the Jackson County Banner reports, at a meeting last week, the board of school trustees approved plans to participate in the Advanced Manufacturing and Logistics Curriculum Project through its vocational education partnership with Bedford-North Lawrence.

Roger Bane, superintendent, told the board, "We need to approve it so Bedford can approve it so we can get some funding."

After the meeting, Bane told The Banner he expects the program to begin next fall.

"Hire Technology" provides an opportunity to prepare students for high tech careers.

"The two-year curriculum will give our students some industry credits, and with those credits and certificates students who aren't going on to post-secondary education can get into manufacturing," Bane told the board.

Semester 2 topics will include manufacturing and logistics processes, APICS certificates and certification, warehousing and warehouse management, material handling, managing inventory, shipping and transportation, and basic business principles.

Semester 3 will include advanced safety principles, print reading, mechatronics electrical systems, metal principles, robotics operation, and robotics programming.

Semester 4 will include turning and machining principles, machining processes, hydraulic power systems, plastics/composites principles, and production scheduling.
