(BROWNSTOWN) - A plan to establish a county government campus around the courthouse in Brownstown continues to take shape.

"We've sent out offer letters to both property owners, and they have accepted the offers," Jason Fee told county commissioners during their recent meeting at the courthouse annex.

The Tribune reports, Fee, a consultant to a committee looking at space needs, was referring to two properties on the west side of the courthouse annex, 202 E. Walnut St. and 109 S. Sugar St.

The county has offered Dave Lewis, who owns the Walnut Street building, $127,194.22 for his property and relocation costs, and Tim and Rhonda Thomas, who own the residence on Sugar Street, $122,900.

Commissioners agreed to go forward with the purchases, which will be bought with capital projects money. That will require the approval of the county council. Three county council members, Leon Pottschmidt, J.L. Brewer and Brian Wheeler, are members of the space needs committee along with commissioners Jerry Hounshel and Matt Reedy. Former commissioner John Schafstall was also a committee member.

Buying the two properties is just the first step in an effort to buy the block where the courthouse annex stands. The county eventually plans to purchase three other properties, one on Sugar Street and two on Cross Street.
