Last updated on Monday, January 7, 2013

(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man was stabbed during an argument Friday and his pregnant girlfriend was arrested.

27-year-old Derika Sylvester was arrested and charged with aggravated battery.
Officers were called to an apartment in the 500 block of South Basswood Drive around 9:30 p.m.

Inside the apartment, police found the 23-year-old man with a stab wound to his upper left chest. He was taken by ambulance to IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Bloomington Sgt. Dana Cole says the injury was not life-threatening.

The man told police that he and Sylvester, were arguing, when she went to the kitchen, got a knife from a butcher's block and stabbed him

A police report did not say what started the argument between the man and his pregnant girlfriend.

Two witnesses inside the apartment corroborated the injured man's account. Cole says a woman called 911 to report the stabbing. And a man applied pressure on the man's wound before emergency responders arrived.

Police says Sylvester denied stabbing her boyfriend and that another man in the apartment had done it.
