(BLOOMINGTON) - The City of Bloomington Arts Commission has released revised guidelines and applications for the April cycle of 2013 Arts Project Grant Program.
The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. on April 1, and maximum grant amounts have been increased to $1,200.
Eligible grant-funded programs must align with the Commision's current areas of focus: cultivating a community in which residents appreciate the value of personal and collaborative artistic activity; encouraging diversification of artistic activities and inclusion of participants from across the community; enhancing and supporting a high level of artistry; and supporting the economic vitality and interests of local artists and arts organizations.
As part of its ongoing capacity-building efforts, the Arts Commission will hold a drop-in workshop for potential applicants from 4 to 5 p.m. on March 20 in the Hooker Conference Room at City Hall, 401 N. Morton St. Attendees are invited to bring their applications in progress for review by Commission members. The drop-in workshop will be conducted on a first come, first served basis.
Submitted applications will be reviewed during the Arts Commission's April meeting, scheduled for 4 p.m. on April 10 in the McCloskey Room at City Hall. The meeting is open to the public.
In 2012, 23 arts projects were supported through the Arts Project Grant Program, which is another effort under the City's strategy to leverage and expand the economic development potential of the arts in Bloomington. According to the 2012 Americans for the Arts study, Bloomington's nonprofit arts sector contributes $72.3 million to the local economy annually through direct spending by arts organizations and their audiences.
