(BLOOMFIELD) - Bloomfield and Shoals School District are two of 40 school across Indiana to be recommended by the Indiana Department of Education to receive a portion of a $10 million grant to recognize teachers.

Bloomfield will be receiving $117,000 to reward teachers who are rated "effective" and "highly effective" on the annual RISE evaluations, according to Superintendent Dan Sichting. Shoals schools will receive $40,000.

Sichting says this is the second year Bloomfield has been chosen to receive a portion of the Excellence in Performance for Teachers Grant. In 2012, the school received $76,231 for the first-time grant.

Sichting explained the first round of funding will be awarded to teachers in the fall after teacher evaluation results are finalized for the 2012-13 school year. The second round of funding will be distributed to teachers in fall of 2014 after results are finalized for the 2013-14 school year.

The press release states the Excellence in Performance for Teachers grant was established in a 2011 legislative session to assist school corporations in recruiting and maintaining effective educators.

Bloomfield and Shoals School District were two of the 124 applications received from schools across the state.

he applications were extensively reviewed and schools went through a multiple phase review process.

Officials say without the grant the school would not be able to financially compensate the teachers who are working hard to make their school districts a better educational facility.
