(ODON) - Five area bands are teaming up to reach out and offer some financial assistance to the victim’s of the tragic Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting last month in Newtown, Conn.
A benefit will be hosted Jan. 12 at the Odon Tavern.
The Greene County Daily World reports that there is no charge to attend the adult's only event open to patrons 21 years and older. However, donations will be accepted and a variety of items and products will be auctioned.
The benefit, which begins at 7 p.m., will feature the musical talents of Linton-based "King McQueen", "Notorious Betty", from the Sullivan area, "Chaos" - a local all-star band, and "Demolition", also from the Linton area.
Also, the acoustic stylings of Franny Hall, from North Vernon, will open the show.
Veteran singer/songwriter Paul Pete Porter, of Bloomfield, who is helping promote the event says, all the bands have donated their time and talents to make this event possible.
King McQueen performed at last year's Linton Music Festival.
Porter has teamed up with Bloomfield native Tracy Lady and Odon Tavern manager Mykalyn Cobb to organize the benefit.
All proceeds will go to the Sandy Hook Elementary School Victims Relief Fund. The school's PTA will administer the fund, which will provide counseling to survivors, pay for funeral expenses for victims, create a scholarship fund for the school's students, and fund a memorial, Porter said.
Porter explained the all-star line-up of bands will benefit the victims. He added everyone was depressed over the tragic event and how both the Democrats and Republicans have handled the situation by shifting to gun control and no one talking about the victims.
The Dec. 14 shooting rampage by 20-year-old Adam Lanza left 20 young students and six adults dead.
Porter says the event is to remember the victims in a positive light, play good music, have an auction and raise funds for the families.
Organizers will take donations, have an auction and sell special designed T-shirts to benefit the victim's families.
Organizers are also seeking sponsors for the event and anyone interested in donating items towards the auction, baked goods or funds to purchase T-shirts to sell at the event.
Lady pointed out that coupons from local gift/floral shops, restaurants, individual consultants (Scentsy, Mary Kay, Pampered Chef, etc.); and hair salons would be ideal for the auction.

Porter says the bands will perform until the bar closes and there is no cover charge.
