(MITCHELL) - Being chosen as the adult services librarian at Mitchell Community Public Library marked the accomplishment of a 10-year goal for Amber Painter.

The Times-Mail reports that she began her job last week, filling a position that was vacated in December with the retirement of Starr DeJesus.

Painter was born in South Bend, where she lived until 2009. That's when she moved to Bloomington to pursue her master's degree in library science. She had earned a bachelor's degree at St. Mary's College, where she majored in studio art with a minor in political science.

Her first job after high school was in the University of Notre Dame's Hesburgh library, where she worked with others on the final step to phase out the print card catalog and switch to an all-digital catalog.

She applied for positions, but did not find one and decided to pursue her master's degree . After earning the degree she worked in an academic library in Fort Wayne until accepting the job in Mitchell.

Painter said she is fortunate to be working in a place where the staff is invested in their jobs and interested in adapting to the needs of the patrons.
