(BEDFORD) - Operation: Black Ops Lock Down, a New Year’s Eve fundraiser held at Bedford North Lawrence High School, raised $2,000 for Dumon McCain, a Bedford Middle School Student.
McCain was diagnosed on Nov. 8 with a rare brain tumor, glioblastoma multiforme, The tumor is on the brain stem and is inoperable.
It is reported to be a rare and aggressive tumor. McCain first received radiation treatments and then began chemotherapy, which is expected to continue at least throughout this year.
Fifty-three kids attended the event.
Participants were asked to make a $20 per person donation, with proceeds to be placed in a trust fund at Hoosier Hills Credit Union for Dumon.
Friends of McCain's family began organizing the Black Ops event, which was centered around the latest in gaming entertainment, basketball, corn hole, music, contests and food.
Amy McNeely, Dumon's mother, says Dumon stayed for the whole event, but was falling asleep as the event ended.
Sponsoring the event was the The Bedford Eagles. Another major contributor was Growby's RTO who provided the TVs, stands and gaming systems, 'DumonStrong' arm bands, food and accessories.
Special thanks were also give to those who plowed snow from the parking lot and to the security guards who were at the school's entrances.
