(BEDFORD) - Lorrie Hamer, the United Way of South Central Indiana executive director, says United Way is at 91 percent of their goal.
Hamer is pleased, but this year's goal is set at $202,013, $183,956 above last year's goal.
Hamer added they need about $18,000 to hit the goal, but it is attainable because there are still workplace campaigns going on."
If the campaign makes goal, it will be the first time in Hamer's six years as executive director.
To hit their goal, letters were sent to past donors and a second letter campaign it taking place now. Called 50 from 50, United Way board members and volunteers are sending 50 letters to personal contacts asking for donations of $50.
If donors send in their donations by Dec. 31, they will get a receipt to use as a tax deduction, Hanner added.
About a dozen nonprofits receive funding from the United Way. The list includes the Thornton Memorial Boys Club, Limestone Girls Club, senior citizens centers in Bedford, Mitchell and Paoli, Hoosier Hills PACT, Boy Scouts, LIFE, Red Cross, Salvation Army, Options and Community Health and Wellness.
In January, United Way will prepare its budget and begin to consider allocations to agencies.
