(SALEM) - The state has followed up on its promise to make improvements to the intersection of State Road 60 and the new bypass around the east side of Salem.
The Leader-Democrat reports, larger stop signs as well as rumble strips have been installed.
That action follows numerous complaints that motorists were not stopping but breezing across State Road 60. Several near misses have been reported.
Greg Prince, media relations director for the Seymour district of the Indiana Department of Transportation said, the larger signs have red flags attached at the top for better visibility. Also, red reflective delineator posts have been placed at the bottom of the stop signs to help warn motorists.
He also reported that additional "stop ahead" warning signs have been put in place.
According to the press release a rumble strip and pavement markings that read 'stop ahead' have been added for extra safety.
Prince said the state will continue to monitor the intersection while motorists become familiar with the new road.
