Prison Parolee Arrested For Rape

Last updated on Saturday, December 1, 2012

(SEYMOUR) - A 55-year-old prison parolee faces rape and criminal confinement charges in connection with an incident reported to police Wednesday.

The arrest of Harold T. Thompson of Seymour occurred after an investigation by detectives with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.

"It began when a 20-year-old woman went to Seymour Police Department and reported she had been raped," Detective Bob Lucas said Thursday.

He described the woman and Thompson as acquaintances.

Thompson, who lives in an apartment east of Seymour, was paroled in January after serving nine years and five months of a 20-year sentence for a rape conviction in Jefferson County, according to the Indiana Department of Correction's offender database. He was sentenced Aug. 27, 2003.

Seymour Officer Chip Petro initially spoke to the woman, who said she had been raped by a man late Tuesday or early Wednesday at a residence on U.S. 50 east of Seymour, Lucas said.
