Operation: Black Ops Lock Down To Aid BNL Middle School Student

Last updated on Thursday, December 20, 2012

(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County is pulling together to help a Bedford Middle School teen in his battle with cancer.

On November 8, Dumon McCain was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor, glioblastoma multiforme. This tumor is on the brain stem and is inoperable. According to doctors the cancer is rare and aggressive.

Dumon currently receives radiation every day in Bloomington. He began chemotherapy at Riley Children's Hospital December 13 and travels there every other week. He will receive his treatments for at least a year after he is finished with his radiation.

To help the family, friends are holding a New Year's Eve lock-in at the Bedford North Lawrence High School gym. "Operation: Black Ops Lock Down" will start December 31 at 9 p.m. and end at 6 a.m. on January 1.

The event is sponsored by the Bedford Eagles and organized by Eddie McLain. This event will center around the latest in gaming entertainment, basketball, corn hole games, music, contests of all kinds and food. Children, 12-years-old and older can attend. Those younger than 12, must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The group asks a $20 donation per person, at the door or in advance. McLain says all of the proceeds will be put in a trust fund at Hoosier Hills Credit Union in Dumon's name.

Volunteers are needed. The group needs people to help supervise the event as well as prepare and provide food. The group is also looking for bus owners who will donate their time and buses to take the kids to the school via a police escort.

Tickets are available in advance at Growby's RTO in both Bedford and Mitchell, and donations of food, prizes and more are needed for the lock-in. To help, contact Eddie McLain 278-1317.
