Officials Seeking Grant Money To Finance Storm Drainage Improvements In Vallonia

Last updated on Tuesday, December 4, 2012

(VALLONIA) - County officials continue to seek grant money to finance storm drainage improvements in Vallonia.

The Jackson County Board of Commissioners recently approved a new income survey of town residents and plans to apply for a federal grant through the state Office of Community and Rural Affairs for the $500,000 project.

Commissioner Jerry Hounshel says after learning it failed to land a grant with its first application, the county is interviewing residents about how the flooding affects them.

Those interviews and the new income survey are intended to improve its chances for obtaining a grant in the next application round.

The project aims to reduce flooding in the small town along State Road 135 south of Brownstown.
