Knucklehead Bend Market And Eatery To Open In March

Last updated on Saturday, December 22, 2012

(BEDFORD) - Remodeling has begun at the former Hall’s service station on Oolitic Road.

Dan Johns and Kathy Stevens purchased the property at a tax sale and are in the process of creating Knucklehead Bend Market and Eatery.

The new establishment will bring in motorcycle and hot-rod enthusiasts with a service station's throwback or retro look. There will be Harley memorabilia and a few hot-rods on site. They also plan to host bike and car shows.

Knucklehead Bend's will serve fried foods, have deli items available, but it will not be the typical convenient store fare, Johns says. The food will be a higher quality and made fresh every day.

Johns say Knucklehead Bend will operate as an independent station selling CountryMark gas and diesel fuel. He noted CountryMark, headquartered in Indiana, sells sweet, quality oil.

"This is directly from the Illinois Basin and is better than anything imported from the Mideast," he emphasized. "It's lower in sulfur, high in cetaine, and results in higher fuel mileage."

The station, which has space to accommodate large trucks and equipment, will feature a minimum of three diesel pumps.

Johns said the target date for opening is sometime in March.
