(ORLEANS) - Today officially marks James Terrell's last day as superintendent of Orleans Community School, and Gary McClintic will now take the helm.

McClintic, who had been principal at Orleans High School, has been working in the superintendent's office since July 1 after Terrell announced his retirement last spring, making the transition smooth.

Roy Kline, who had been principal at Orleans Elementary School, became high school principal, and Chris Stevens, who had been with Shoals schools, was hired early in the summer as the elementary school principal.

This school year marks 32 years in education for McClintic, meaning 31 years were spent serving and dealing with students, now he will be in charge of the business side of the school system.

One priority for McClintic will be focusing on a technology grant the school has received. Another prominent issue for current school leaders is the calendar, with most recent talk focusing on the "balanced" school year. He acknowledged that safety of students is becoming more challenging than ever before.

McClintic spent nine years as principal for middle and high school students in Orleans. In 2011, he was named the Indiana Association of School Principals' District 12 Middle School Principal of the Year.

From 1982-1999 McClintic was on the faculty in Orleans, teaching health and physical education at junior high through high school levels. He also taught science at the junior high level. He left the Orleans school system in 1999 to become an assistant principal at West Washington High School.

After four years there, he returned to Orleans to assume the principal's position.
McClintic is originally from Columbus. Although he graduated from high school in Shelby County, he attended Orleans schools from 7th through 10th grades. He completed his bachelor's degree at Oakland City University and earned his bachelor's degree in administration/supervision from Indiana University. He is married to the former Mary Jo Delong, who grew up in Paoli. They have a daughter, Anna, and a son, Owen.
