(BROWNSTOWN) - E&H Tubing, Inc. who acquired the assets of Indiana Steel and Tube, a mechanical and structural tubing manufacturer, announced plans Thursday to locate its operations in Brownstown, creating up to 56 new jobs by 2015.
E&H Tubing is leasing the two former Indiana Steel and Tube facilities. The 100,000 square-foot facility and 68,000 square-foot facility, which are located on a combined 20 acres of land in Brownstown, are fully operational and will continue to produce mechanical steel tubing, structural steel tubing and all-coated products.
"For E&H Tubing to choose to locate its business in our state over all other options is a testament to the fine workers and compelling business environment Indiana has to offer," said Dan Hasler, Secretary of Commerce and chief executive officer of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation.
E&H Tubing, which shares common ownership with Charter Steel Trading Co., Inc., manufactures steel tubing used in a wide range of products including racking systems, chain link fences, patio furniture, agriculture equipment and satellite products. The company has already hired machine operators, fork truck operators and packaging positions and plans to add additional positions as part of a second shift in the upcoming months.
"We wanted to keep the mill in Indiana because of Indiana's business-friendly climate and we believe that having the ownership with Indiana Steel and Tube along with Charter Steel Trading Co. creates a strong steel based alliance within the steel industry. This alliance will provide complimentary broad customer service to their customer base," said Gary Birnbaum, president of Charter Steel Trading Co.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered E&H Tubing, Inc. up to $400,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $40,000 in training grants based on the company's job creation plans. These tax credits are performance-based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. The town of Brownstown approved additional tax abatement at the request of the Jackson County Industrial Development Corporation.
E&H Tubing joins a long line of companies that have made plans to locate or grow their operations in southeast Indiana in 2012. Uni-Ref, Hitachi Powdered Metals (USA), Seymour Tubing, Master Power Transmission and Cummins are some of the 23 companies that have committed to creating a cumulative 3,580 projected new jobs and invest $689.9 million in their southeast Indiana operations this year.
