Bloomington Police Investigating Rape

Last updated on Sunday, December 23, 2012

(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington Police are investigating a reported rape that reportedly occurred in broad daylight December 17, but wasn’t reported until December 20.

According to Bloomington Police Department Detective Sgt. John Kovach, just after 3 p.m. Dec. 17, a 30-year-old woman was walking east in the 300 block of East First Street when she felt a tap on her shoulder. She turned around to see a 40-year-old man whom she recognized as an acquaintance, Bloomington Police Department Detective Sgt. John Kovach says.

Kovach says that the man reportedly punched the woman in the face and she fell to the ground, unconscious. When she awoke, the man was on top of her having non-consensual sexual intercourse.

The woman reportedly lost consciousness once again. When she woke up the second time, the man was standing over her and threatened physical harm to her if she reported the rape.

Kovach says police have not yet found the man. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Bloomington Police.
