(BLOOMINGTON) - 89-year-old Bill Ramsey, of Bloomington died Thursday after he was hit by a car while crossing Rhorer Road to get his mail.

According to Monroe County Coroner Nicole Meyer, Ramsy, died at IU Health Bloomington Hospital as a result of injures to his face, a broken neck and breaks to his arms and legs.

According to Monroe County Sheriff Department Chief Deputy Mike Pershing, Ramsey, of 575 E. Rhorer Road, was hit by a silver 2003 Ford Focus at about 6:45 a.m.

Pershing says Ramsey had crossed from his home on the north side of the road to his mailbox on the south side and was trying to cross the road once more to return to his home when he was hit.

Pershing says 35-year-old Michelle Montgomery, was driving east on Rhorer Road when the passenger side of her car struck Ramsey.

Pershing says speed was not a factor, but rain and fog did cause limited visibility.

Assisting at the scene was Perry-Clear Creek Fire Department.
