Bloomfield Man Arrested After Stealing Fuel

Last updated on Friday, December 14, 2012

(BLOOMFIELD) - 23-year-old James Myers III, of Bloomfield, was arrested on charges of theft after he allegedly stole gasoline.

Myers is accused of pumping gas at the Hasler Oil service station in Bloomfield and charging the purchases to a business account, but it wasn't his business and the business owners say he didn't have permission to do that.

The probable cause affidavit includes a long list of charges dating back to early August and continuing on a regular basis up until early December when the business owners figured out there was a problem.

Police have more than 30 charge slips with more than 727 gallons of gas being stolen with a value of more than $2,200.

The fuel was charged to the business account of B&C Disposal located on North Sharkey Road. The business is owned by Bobby and Cynthia Vandeventer.

Cynthia Vandeventer became suspicious early in December and the owners went to Hasler Oil to question how much gasoline Myers had been charging to them.

One Hasler Oil employee reported Myers had told him he was Bobby Vandeventer's son and it was okay to charge the fuel.

After speaking with Myers, police searched his vehicle and found more charge slips with Myers name on them.

Myers denied claiming to be Vandeventer's son. Myers admitted to the theft and told police it just got out of hand.
