Bedford Man Sentenced On Child Pornography

(NEW ALBANY) - Richard Wegener, of Bedford, who entered a plea of guilty to a charge of possession of child pornography was sentenced Friday in the United States District Court Southern Indiana District in New Albany.

Wegener was sentenced to 115 months (about 9 and a half years) in the Bureau of Prisons. Upon his release he will be put on supervised probation for the rest of his life and must pay $5,000 in restitution to the victim.

Wegener, was arrested on May 31 by troopers of the Indiana State Police and the Department of Homeland Security and was taken into the custody of the U.S. Marshal.

He was taken to the Floyd County Jail and held without bond.

According to U.S. Prosecution Atttorney Steven Wegener's last known address was 1614 Second Street.

According to a federal information document, Wegener waived his right to indictment and entered a guilty plea in U.S. District Court earlier this year. The agreement then was awaiting the court's acceptance, which also occurred during the hearing Friday.

Wegener is one of two Bedford men charged in unrelated cases involving child pornography.

The second man, John William Hudson II, is scheduled for a jury trial before Judge Tanya Walton Pratt in New Albany at 9 a.m. on March 4.

46-year-old Hudson, was arrested in August after a federal grand jury indictment. He is charged with one count of distribution of child pornography and two counts of possession of pornography.

Hudson was arrested on Aug. 23. After a warrant was served at his home at 1717 14th St. He was taken to the Marion County Jail and made his initial court appearance on the same day of his arrest where he pleaded not guilty.
