Last updated on Monday, November 12, 2012

(SEYMOUR) - A southern Indiana woman sustained life-threatening injuries in a wreck that left six others injured Saturday evening on Interstate 65 about three miles south of Seymour, police report.

State Trooper Matt Holley said in a news release that Frances Wilkey; 64, of Warrick County; was flown to University of Louisville Hospital.

Wilkey was a passenger in a 2008 Dodge Caravan driven by Becky Freimiller, also of Warrick County, who sustained severe cuts and trauma to the face and a possible concussion.

Five others passengers in the van, also from Warrick County, were injured in the wreck including Jessica Evans, 19, who sustained serious head injuries, and Laura Wilkey, 43, who sustained possible broken bones. Donna Evans, 53, Tina Whitaker, 50, and Miranda Garrett, 14, all sustained cuts and bruises in the wreck, reported at about 6:30 p.m.

Holley said the seven were injured when the 2008 Dodge Caravan Freimiller was driving south near the 47-mile marker was struck by a large tire that came across the median and hit the windshield.

Holley said Freimiller lost control of the van, which went into the median and struck the barrier cable before launching over that barrier into the northbound lanes of Interstate 65. A 2011 Freightliner semi tractor-trailer rig driven by Anthony Green, 36, of Woodruff, S. C., then sideswiped the van causing heavy front end damage to the van.

Green was uninjured.

State troopers and officers with the Jackson County Sheriff's Departments searched the area for the vehicle which lost the tire. Police believe it came from a trailer of a large vehicle. Anyone with information regarding the "mystery" vehicle should contact the Indiana State Police, Versailles District at 812-689-5000. The crash remains under investigation.
