UPDATE: Woman Arrested After Police Find Drugs

Last updated on Tuesday, November 20, 2012

(MITCHELL) - A Florida woman was arrested after the Lawrence County Drug Task Force received a tip of possible drug activity.

49-year-old Rebecca Russell, of Lakeland, FL., who now is living in a home in Mitchell, was arrested on charges of maintaining a common nuisance, possession of paraphernalia, possession of marijuana under 30 grams, possession of a legend drug and possession of a schedule II controlled substance.

According to Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig, police were notified about possible drug activity after they received a phone call from a postal inspector.

"They had intercepted a package they suspected contained marijuana," Craig says. "After obtaining a search warrant they found marijuana methadone and oxycodone inside the package," Craig says. "The package was resealed and delivered by a postal inspector to a home at 329 Wade Street in Mitchell. In the mean time local police obtained a search warrant for the property."

After the package was delivered, police searched the home.

"Mitchell Police Officer Matt England and his K-9 assisted in the search," Craig says. "Officers found several drug related items, straws that contained drug residue, rolling papers, scissors, and other items. They also found a prescription bottle in another person's name that did not reside at that home."

Craig says the case is still under investigation and two people of interest in Oregon are also being investigated.

Russell was arrested just after 1 p.m. Monday.
