Two Injured After Vehicle Crashes Into Tree

(MITCHELL) - Two men were hurt after the vehicle they were in crashed into a tree.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, 27-year-old Dustin Turpin, of Bedford, was traveling south on Rabbitsville Road near Jaye Lane when he lost control of his 2002 Jeep Cherokee and slid sideways into a tree.

When police arrived they found 42-year-old Guy Blake, of Mitchell, who was a passenger in the vehicle standing beside the Cherokee. Turpin, the driver, was trapped inside.

Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department firefighters freed Turpin from the vehicle.

Turpin suffered head injuries and Blake had facial injuries. Both were taken to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital. Turpin was then taken to an Indianapolis hospital.

The accident is still under investigation, but according to the police report Turpin will be arrested for driving while intoxicated causing injury.
