(SALEM) - Two people were airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital following separate crashes Wednesday.
Stephanie Taylor Ferriell, of the Leader-Democrat reports, Robin Erwin, 54, 3688 E. State Road 160, Salem, suffered broken ribs and internal injuries, including a possible collapsed lung, said Deputy Brad Naugle of the Washington County Sheriff's Department.
Naugle said Erwin was westbound on State Road 160, driving a 2003 Honda when he lost control of the bike in a 90 degree turn near New Beginning Baptist Church. Erwin slid across the eastbound lane and off the highway, striking a road sign and an embankment and finally, a fence.
He was wearing a helmet.
He was airlifted to U of L by Air Methods air ambulance. The motorcycle was a total loss. The crash was reported at 4:38 p.m.
Police are still searching for the driver who allegedly caused a crash in Campbellsburg, then jumped out of the car and ran.
Deputy Joe Keltner said the crash, which occurred on State Road 60 in front of the Taylor Apartments, was reported at 6:25 p.m.
He said it appears the driver of vehicle one, a 2000 Kia Sportage, turned in front of the second vehicle, causing the crash.
The front passenger side of the second car, a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am, bore the brunt of the crash. Seated there was Emily Elrod, 27, Crothersville. She suffered a broken leg and lacerations.
Keltner said she was flown from the scene to U of L.
The driver, Duke Johnson, 23, Campbellsburg, was uninjured. Both he and Elrod were wearing seat belts.
The investigation is continuing.
