Last updated on Friday, November 30, 2012

(SALEM) - Robin “Rob” Erwin, of Salem, was killed in a motorcycle accident Wednesday.

Erwin, 54, was an active member of the Ninth Kentucky Cavalry Civil War Reenactment Group and portrayed General John Hunt Morgan. He did reenactments at Beck's Mill and at Old Settlers' Day.

According to Washington County Deputy Brad Naugle, Erwin crashed his motorcycle near his home Wednesday evening. He suffered broken ribs and internal injuries, including a possible collapsed lung. He later died from those injures at U of L Hospital.

According to police reports, Erwin was westbound on State Road 160, driving a 2003 Honda when he lost control of the bike in a 90-degree turn near New Beginning Baptist Church. Erwin slid across the eastbound lane and off the highway, hitting a road sign, an embankment and finally, a fence.

Naugle reports that he was wearing a helmet during the incident. He was flown by helicopter to the hospital.
