Salem Man Arrested Again For Drunk Driving

Last updated on Friday, November 2, 2012

(SALEM) - 51-year-old Kenneth Smallwood, of Salem, who has three previous drunk driving convictions was arrested for that offense yet again Oct. 22.

Stephanie Taylor Ferriell of the Leader-Democrat reports that Smallwood is charged with a felony for OWI with a prior, and three related misdemeanors as a result of his latest arrest.

A report by Salem City Police Officer Chris Cauble says he was in his patrol car in the old KD's Backroads parking lot last Sunday morning when he saw a white pickup turn onto Parkview Drive.

The driver was intently watching a county officer, who was meeting Cauble.

Cauble pulled behind the truck to observe it and the driver accelerated rapidly, veering to the left and nearly running off the road. The truck then pulled into a private drive on Parkview.

As Cauble approached the truck, Smallwood looked at him and said, "I'm home." The report says Smallwood told Cauble he did not have a driver's license.

Smallwood failed field sobriety tests, but refused to cooperate with a breath test. He was transported to St. Vincent Salem Hospital for a Blood alcohol test. His BAC was .24, three times the legal limit. Smallwood was arrested and transported to the detention center.

Records show Smallwood has convictions in Washington County in 2009 and 2011 for OWI with a prior, as well as a 2005 conviction in Kentucky.
