Orleans Historical Town Square Comes Alive With Christmas Spirit Dec. 8

(ORLEANS) - The Orleans Chamber of Commerce’s 4th annual “Christmas on the Square” event returns on Saturday, December 8th from 6 to 8 p.m.

The Chamber along with other community partners will be offering a number of free family type activities that evening in Historic Congress Square.

There will once again be a Live Nativity complete with live animals for the children to see and pet sponsored by the Orleans Ministerial Association to help tell the traditional Christmas Story. Visitors will be able to walk through various scenes and interact with participants, listen to the sounds of the season from caroling groups.

The popular children's "Christmas Funtime Express" will be back offering free train rides around the town square that night for those wishing to ride.

Musical entertainment will be provided throughout the evening by Orleans Elementary School Choir, Orleans High School Dance Team, Orleans High School Band with OHS Alumni band members from the past, Kate Henderson, individuals, and church groups etc.

Orleans Methodist Church is planning a Soup Supper that evening along with a Cookie Walk and invites visitors to come early and warm up with a variety of soups which will be served in the church basement. Serving times will be from 4 to 6 p.m.

Santa and Mrs. Claus are expected to arrive via fire truck at approximately 6 p.m. and will be on the bandstand to meet area youngsters, pose for pictures in front of the town Christmas Tree. Orleans Kiwanis will offer free pictures with Santa for those who are interested.

A children's craft activity is also planned.

Brack Coulter will offer Horse & Wagon rides around the decorated historic town square.

Orleans Phi Beta will be offering poinsettias for sale that evening in the Chamber's Visitor Center. The center will also be open during the event for visitors to come in and get warm for a bit and purchase chamber related mdse i.e. throws, ornaments and dogwood items, pick up a Postcard for Santa etc.

Busy Bz's will be set up on the ball court area an offer up their delicious Kettle Corn.

Orleans Fire Department will be serving up barbeque sandwiches.

Kirk Vet Service will be open during the event giving out kids dog treats to all those who stop in and see them.

Cynthia Griffith will offer candles, melts and Christmas craft items and Simon and Wendy Sprigler will have candy, small decorated trees, Tooth Fairy Pillows and other gift items for sale in the park.

Several of the specialty shops and eateries around the square are expected to be open with extended hours that evening as well.

A Coloring Contest is also being held for the Orleans Elementary School students in conjunction with the chamber's holiday happenings.
