(MITCHELL) - Mitchell Police are investigating several break-ins to vehicles.

"This is an ongoing problem," says Mitchell Police Chief Mike Hardman, "People need to lock their vehicles."

Hardman says several residents told police they are afraid to lock their vehicles, because they claim the criminals will just break out the windows.

"We believe it is a group of juveniles doing the break-ins," Hardman says.

In fact, one resident in the 100 block of West Main Street on Sunday reported she saw three male juvenile attempting to get into her car, early Sunday morning, but fled and police could not find them.

"The teens are taking loose change," Hardman says. "There have been some valuable items in the vehicles, like GPS, radios, camouflage binoculars and an expensive camera reported taken. We cannot stress enough for residents to lock their doors and not leave loose change or other valuables in their vehicles. They need to remove the items or lock them in the trunk."
