(BEDFORD) - Norm Taylor, who enriched the lives of students and the community with his talents of blending the past and the future has passed away.
Emergency crews were notified at 5:06 p.m. of an unresponsive man at the Avoca Fish Hatchery. When crews arrived Taylor was not breathing and those that found him were performing CPR.
Lawrence County Coroner John Sherrill says Taylor, did not regain consciousness was pronounced dead at IU Health Bedford Hospital.
"Mr. Taylor had some health problems and an autopsy will be performed this morning," Sherrill says.
Taylor, resided in Oolitic with his wife Annette, was counselor at the North Lawrence Career Center. He leaves behind four children: Katresha Taylor, Kelly Huntzinger, Ashley Huntzinger and Kyle Huntzinger.
Taylor's talent will be missed.
Taylor, who loved history was most recognized as founder and chief promoter of the Lawrence County History Festival.
Taylor who has Cherokee lineage on his father's side, also had a passion for the Great Depression and World War II. His favorite president - Franklin D. Roosevelt.
He spent about 25 years as a Civil War re-enactor and visited many of the Civil War Battlefields. He was a member of the 27th Indiana Civil War Re-enactors and 13th Mississippi Civil War Re-enactors
Taylor was determined to do his part to preserve local and national heritage and shared his passion of history on the airwaves with "Lawrence County Oral History" which later became know as "Indiana History Project". The shows aired on AT&T U-verse on Channel 99 and Comcast Channel 14.
Because of his accomplishments, Taylor was bestowed the 2011 Frank and Judy O'Bannon Heritage Enrichment Award.
Norm graduated from Oolitic High School in 1971. He earned a bachelor's degree in history from Olivet Nazarene University; graduate degree in counseling from Liberty University.
Other activities include Buffalo Bill impersonator, was a member of Lawrence County Victorian Dancers and played for the Lawrence County Greys baseball team.
Arrangements are pending at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
