(SALEM) - Indiana Conservation officers are investigating a hunting accident that occurred Sunday evening that left a Medora man with serious injuries.
According to Conservation Officer Neal Brewington, 51-year-old Mark Collins, of Medora, was hunting near Coates Road, west of State Road 135, at about 5:45 p.m. Sunday when he fell 17 feet out of a ladder style tree stand.
Brewington says Collins was attempting to climb down the tree stand when he fell.
Collins told officers he began yelling for help and fired his gun into the air in an attempt to get the attention of other hunters or neighbors in the area.
Justin Couch was hunting in the area and heard Collins yell for help and came to Collins aid.
Members of the Washington County Sheriff's department, St. Vincent's ambulance service, Monroe Township Volunteer fire department, and Kentucky Air Methodist all were on scene. Collins was flown to University of Louisville Hospital.
Collins' condition is not known at this time, but at the scene, Brewington say Collins complained of having no feeling in his legs.
Brewington says Collins was not wearing a hunter safety harness at the time of his fall.
