(SALEM) - 24-year-old Earl Horine Jr., of Salem, was arrested recently on felony charges related to a domestic dispute which resulted in his infant son's skull being fractured.

He was charged with neglect of a dependent and two D felonies for domestic battery and criminal recklessness.

Stephanie Taylor Ferriell of the Leader-Democrat reports that Horine's wife told officers a friend was at the couple's home after she returned home Oct. 16 from a trip into town. The two men were speaking about the Horines' relationship.

Horine's wife says she went into the bedroom where Horine began yelling at her, then punched her in the forehead. The force of the blow caused her to fall to the floor. She was holding the couple's infant son at the time and he struck his head on the floor.

The child was transported to St. Vincent Salem Hospital then flown by air ambulance to Kosair Children's Hospital. The police report says the child's skull was fractured and he suffered brain hemorrhaging.

Horine however told police they were arguing over their relationship. He told police he called his parents to come pick him up, and while gathering his belongings, his wife hit him on the head five times with a phone and was kicking him. But, Salem City Police Officer Joey Wheeler says Horine had no marks from the alleged attack and there was no damage to the cell phone allegedly used as a weapon.

Police say Horine has a history of domestic violence, with previous convictions for the crime. Horine's wife told police that Horine had threatened that if she called police again and sent him to jail he would kill her.

Horine remains in the Washington County Detention Center on a $30,000 full cash bond or $92,000 surety or $190,000 property.
