(LOOGOOTEE) - The Loogootee City Council adopted an animal control ordinance that will increase offenses for nuisance animals.

Pet owners will no longer be given a verbal warning.

The city's first warning will come with a $25 dollar fine and each offense after that will increase by $25.

After the third offense, pet owners will receive a $100 ticket for every offense thereafter.

Offenses include excessive barking or whining dogs and for those that let their pets roam city streets.

After a 12-month period without an offense, violators will start back with a first offense and a $25 ticket.

Mayor Noel Harty says he will have officers start fining violators.
