(JOHNSON COUNTY) - Johnson County Commissioners Monday voted to extend Indiana’s state smoking law to cover the entire county.
This goes into effect January 1.
County Attorney Kathleen Hash says the law will also apply to bars in unincorporated parts of the county and in any city that does not have a more restrictive smoking ordinance. Smokers can smoke outside bars at least 8 feet from the door, unless the bar owner adopts a stricter rule.
Hash says all county government property will be smoke-free - including parks and fairgrounds - as well as county offices. She says this will apply to building and grounds, and noted this is similar to policies adopted by Johnson Memorial Hospital and Franklin College, who made their entire campuses smoke-free.
