Fatal Crash In Jackson County

Last updated on Tuesday, November 6, 2012

(SEYMOUR) - Members of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and other first responders arrived on the scene of a fatal head-on collision on U.S. 31 just south of Seymour Monday afternoon.

The Seymour Tribune reported that the 4 p.m. crash resulted in the death of one person.

Det. Bob Lucas indicated that the deceased was a female passenger in one of the vehicles. A second person, the driver, had to be extricated from the same car. That person was flown to a Louisville hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Witnesses told police that the car was northbound on U.S. 31 when it drove left of center, striking a southbound Dodge Ram pickup truck head on. Investigators do not yet know why the driver of the car drove into the truck's path. The driver of the pickup complained of pain but was not taken to the hospital.

As of late Monday afternoon, investigators have yet to identify the people involved.
