DNR Investigates Shooting Death Of Bald Eagle

(HOOSIER NATIONAL FOREST) - The mature Bald Eagle was located by hikers in the Hoosier National Forest near the Jackson, Lawrence, and Monroe County Line.

DNR Cpl. Nathan Berry, says the Eagle was located on the 5th of November and officers believe that it died sometime in early November.

It is unknown if the Eagle died at the location where it was located or if they carcass had been dumped.

Officers are also considering the possibility that the Eagle was able to fly for some distance before dying after having been shot.

Conservation Officers have had an X-Ray performed to confirm that the bird had been shot. A necropsy is pending at this time.

Officers are requesting that anyone with information that relates to the case please contact them at 1-800-TIP-IDNR. There is a cash reward available to the person who provides information leading to the guilty party in this case.
