Last updated on Saturday, November 3, 2012

(BLOOMINGTON) - During the month of November, the City of Bloomington Entertainment and Arts District (BEAD) will showcase paintings in watercolor created by members of the Bloomington Watercolor Society (BWS) in the Atrium of City Hall, 401 N. Morton Street.

The exhibit will be on display Nov. 2 to 30 and will feature members' recent work. A reception for the exhibit will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Atrium at City Hall. Harpist Jasmin Jawad of Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music will be performing during the reception. The public is invited to attend and meet the BWS artists. Regular exhibition hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, as well as additional evening and weekend hours when City Hall is open for meetings.

BWS promotes camaraderie among artists and provides opportunities for promoting and exhibiting watercolor paintings in the community. Membership is open to everyone from hobbyists to professional artists. For more information on the BWS, email members@bloomingtonwatercolor.org.

BEAD is committed to providing opportunities for area artists to exhibit artwork in the City Hall Atrium. For more information on the exhibition program, contact Assistant Economic Development Director for the Arts Miah Michaelsen at michaelm@bloomington.in.gov or 349-3534.

This project is another effort under the City's strategy to leverage and expand the economic development potential of the arts in Bloomington. According to a 2012 Americans for the Arts study, Bloomington's nonprofit arts sector contributes $72.3 million to the local economy annually through direct spending by arts organizations and their audiences.
